Jessica Winter elected to AIChE Board of Directors

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) announced its newest slate of officers this month--including Distinguished Professor of Engineering Jessica O. Winter. She will serve a three-year term.
Professor Winter, who is active in a number of professional and science advocacy activities, is a leader in nanobiotechnology with applications to cancer. Her primary research interest is the exploration of the relationship between nanoparticles and biological elements. She developed the MagDot imaging innovation, a high caliber magnetic fluorescent nanoparticle surpassing previous attempts in practical qualities which shines in different colors to tag molecules in biomedical tests such as cancer detection. The refined particle could help researchers to significantly reduce costs, increase the efficiency of their research, better identify and understand disease progression, and improve patient outcomes. With this technology she founded a start-up company, Core Quantum Technologies, LLC, which markets the substantially-improved quantum dot and magnetic dot products to the research biotechnology market. She holds two patents, with another pending.
In addition to being an AIChE Fellow and now a member of their board of directors, she is also a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), and is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). National awards include the American Physical Society (APS) Five Sigma Award, the American Chemical Society (ACS) Rising Star Award and the Engineering DesignNews Golden Mouse Trap Rising Star Award. She was also named to the Top 25 STEM professors in Ohio list.
Joining Winter as newly elected members of the AIChE Board are: Concetta La Marca, Senior Principal Consultant at the Chemours Company; Dave Parrillo, Vice President of Research and Development for Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics and Hydrocarbons division; and Jean W. Tom, Executive Director of Development Engineering and Chemistry Process Development at Bristol Myers Squibb.
AIChE is a worldwide organization comprised of more than 60,000 members from more than 110 countries. It is the lead organization for top professionals in chemical engineering and related fields.
