Department announces student award honorees
Every spring, the William G. Lowrie Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering recognizes some of its many exceptional students and post-docs through the department's annual awards program. Twenty-four students were honored this year.
Post-doctoral student Dikai Xu (Fan Group), graduate student Dongjoon Kim (Asthagiri Group), and undergraduate student Ben Carpenter (currently president of The Ohio State Student Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers) received American Institute of Chemists Outstanding Student Awards. This special honor includes a Student Affiliate membership in the American Institute of Chemists; a one-year subscription to The Chemist, an AIC online peer-reviewed journal; a listing on the AIC website; and opportunities to enroll in AIC's certification program, participate in regional and national meetings, and network with other chemical professionals.
Outstanding Post-Doctoral Award for Academic Achievement
Post-doctoral student Yang Xu (William Wang Group) received the department's Outstanding Post-Doctoral Award for Academic Achievement.

Two students received American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Chapter Awards: Jacob Belding was chosen for the Central Ohio Section Outstanding Student Award and Fayme Gandhi won the Donald F. Othmer Sophomore Academic Excellence Award.
AIChE Student Chapter Awards
Our AIChE Student Chapter also has an awards program, which recognizes three students annually. These awards are special in that students are nominated by their peers. The chemical engineering department's Award Committee then selects the winners. This year, Lilly Vagedes won the Exemplary Service and Leadership Award; Elizabeth Ostadali won the Outstanding Community Outreach Award; and Connie Yuan earned the Outstanding Support of Undergraduate Education Award.
Outstanding Undergraduate Awards for Research Excellence
The department also honored five undergraduates with the Outstanding Undergraduate Award for Research Excellence. Honorees include Lindsay Isom and Louann Kovach (Fan Group); Alexis Olmsted (Ozkan Group); Emery Monnig (Wood Group); and Ankur Parekh (Swindle-Reilly Group).
Congratulations to all of our award winners!
