Doctoral student Dongjoon Kim from Aravind Asthagiri's Computational Catalysis Group has been recognized with a variety of honors and awards.

Scholarship and Service

The first award is The Ohio State University Council of Graduate Students' Edward J. Ray Travel Award for Scholarship and Service. This award encourages graduate students university-wide to present their original research at national conferences by defraying their travel expenses. Recipients are selected on students' service to their department, university, and community; as well as academic standing; professional goals; and presentation capabilities.

Dongjoon will present his research on kinetic barriers influencing branching points of C1 products at UKC 2021 (the US-KOREA Conference on Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship) to be held in the Los Angeles area this December. UKC 2021 is organized by three prestigious organizations – the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA), the Korean Federation of Science & Technology Societies (KOFST), and the Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center (KUSCO).

Coming up this December, Dongjoon is receiving the KSEA-KUSCO Graduate Award from the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association & Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center. This award recognizes graduate students in the United States with outstanding academic performance and community service with the potential to become future leaders who can increase cooperation between the U.S. and Korea.

Leadership

In May 2021, Dongjoon's leadership benefitting the Ohio State and Columbus Asian community was recognized with The Ohio State University Office of International Affairs' International Leadership Scholarship. The scholarship, established in 2012 by Dr. Lu and the Asian Festival Corporation, provides partial tuition support to students whose leadership activities have benefitted the Ohio State campus community and the Columbus Asian Community.

Also last May, Dongjoon's service as founder and president of the Korean Graduate Student Association resulted in the group winning the Outstanding New Student Organization Award from the Office of Student Life at The Ohio State University.
