Anagha Hunoor, a student in Professor Umit Ozkan's Heterogeneous Catalysis Group, has received an AICHE Catalysis and Reaction Engineering Division 2021 Travel Award to present her research paper at the 2021 AIChE Annual Meeting to be held in Boston this November.

Her paper is titled “On the dual-role of the reactant during aqueous-phase hydrodechlorination of tri-chloroethylene using Pd catalysts supported on swellable organically modified silica (SOMS)”. In this study, Hunoor and other team members enhanced the economic viability of hydrodechlorination using SOMS by eliminating the need for an external swelling agent and a pre-reduced catalyst during the reaction. This research can be used for treatment of water contaminated with chlorinated hydrocarbons such as TCE, which poses serious health hazards for millions of Americans.

Congratulations!
