The Growing Research Opportunities (GRO) initiative is designed to help position Ohio State for research excellence in new areas. Through a developing, multi-faceted set of programs, GRO seeks to foster intellectually diverse, collaborative research across academic domains, catalyze new scholarly pursuits, and help generate compelling future funding proposals. This program will equip faculty with skills needed to lead complex, interdisciplinary collaborations in pursuit of external funding.

In announcing those selected, reviewers stated that individuals were chosen because of their accomplishments, experience with interdisciplinary teams, career plan, and exemplary references.

"Collectively, you and your colleagues represent the future of Ohio State’s research leadership and embody diverse and interdisciplinary perspectives on research and creative inquiry," the statement reads.

Participants who attend and complete all activities of this program, which runs from May 17th – June 14th, will be named GRO Leadership Fellows – Class of 2021.

Fellows will benefit from:

  • Priority access to the full menu of services offered by the Research Development Office (RDO) for large scale, multidisciplinary research and creative inquiry proposal development, team development, research planning, and consultation;
  • Consultation with RDO staff to develop a three-to-five-year individual research plan towards successfully leading a large-scale research team proposal;
  • New and enhanced relationships with university leaders and administration; and
  • A greater understanding and appreciation towards interdisciplinary team collaboration.
