Xilal Rima, a doctoral student in Eduardo Reátegui's group, was one of about 40 students selected nationwide to participate in the NextProf Pathfinder Workshop. The workshop will be held September 18-21, 2019 at the University of Michigan.

Like the other NextProf workshops, the Pathfinder Workshop is an intense “boot camp” intended for 1st and 2nd year Ph.D. students and students in masters programs in colleges of engineering across the country. The workshop prepares early doctoral students for a successful Ph.D. graduate school experience. Participants will also receive information on what it takes to build a competitive graduate school record to obtain a faculty position in academia/the professoriate.

Xilal is currently working on cancer research, specifically on a phenomenon referred to as cancer dormancy. He plans to pursue a career in academia, where he can encourage diversification and serve as an advocate to underrepresented engineering students.

Prior to coming to Ohio State, Xilal studied at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he did research at the Biomolecular Materials and Nanoscale Assembly Lab for Jennifer N. Cha.

Congratulations, Xilal!
