Posted:

He's known for his rigorous homework assignments and drive to motivate students to be the best they can be -- things which the average student might not always appreciate at the time, but which most come to appreciate. His goals is to make learning not only challenging, but fun, rewarding, and even exciting -- and these things ultimately endear him to his students.

Professor of Practice John Clay, an alumnus of Ohio State's chemical engineering program who leads the William G. Lowrie Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering's Unit Operations laboratory, knows the value of hard work and employs creative energy and innovative methods to deliver the best outcomes for his students -- endeavors which have now been recognized with the College of Engineering 2019 Ralph L. Boyer Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Engineering Innovation.

Previously, Clay won Ohio State's highest teaching honor - The Ohio State University Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. He was also chosen to particpate in an elite teacher mentoring program - the Faculty Instruction Training program, to help faculty new to Ohio State get their footing as teachers.

Clay, who also works as a Research Leader at Battelle doing high-level research for the government, is the holder of two patents.
