Yang Han, '18

Yang Han, a recent Ph.D. graduate (December 2018) from Winston Ho’s group, has received the 2019 Young Membrane Scientist Award from the North American Membrane Society (NAMS).

This marks the fourth major award for Han. In the final year of his Ph.D. program at Ohio State, Han was selected to receive the 2018 AIChE Separations Division Graduate Student Award in Membrane Separations; the 2018 Elias Klein Founders' Travel Supplement Award (NAMS); and the NAMS 2018 Poster Award.

The selection of the NAMS Young Membrane Scientist Award is highly competitive with a global request for nominations of applicants, including assistant professors, post-docs and researchers who received their Ph.D. degree within the past 5 years. It is based, in part, on academic achievements and membrane research accomplishments as well as research plans and future potential in the field of membrane science and technology.

The award consists of $500, a commemorative plaque, a one-year NAMS membership, free meeting registration, and a conference hotel room (three nights) for Yang to present a paper, entitled “Unprecedented CO2/H2 Selectivity and CO2 Permeance Demonstrated in Facilitated Transport Membranes with Tunable Amine-CO2 Chemistry," in the special Award Session at the NAMS Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA on May 12 – 15, 2019.

Last year, another student from Professor Ho's group, Dongzhu Wu, received the same award - the NAMS 2018 Young Membrane Scientists Award.
