Palmer wins $2.9M in NIH grants

In September, Chairman Andre Palmer was awarded two 4-year R01s from the NIH totaling $2.9M. One R01 is focused on facilitating oxygen delivery to tissue engineered constructs for applications in regenerative medicine, while the other is focused on developing a safe and efficacious red blood cell substitute for use in transfusion medicine. Palmer’s team includes co-PIs from the University of California San Diego and Rutgers University.

Palmer and Jeff Chalmers are also expecting another R01 that received a score of 1%.That grant is focused on producing a more uniform unit of packed red blood cells for use in transfusion medicine.
