Undergrads Empfield and Sandvik win awards in the 2016 COE Undergraduate Research Forum
Many undergrads don't get an opportunity to participate in research, so even fewer receive awards. But yesterday, two undergrads from the William G. Lowrie Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering did just that.
Abbey Empfield and Peter Sandvik, both students working in Dr. L.-S. Fan's laboratory, won prizes in the seventh annual College of Engineering Undergraduate Research Forum for Engineering and Architecture students. The forum is intended for every student in any engineering or architecture discipline who participates in research, and was sponsored by The College of Engineering, Knowlton School of Architecture, and Tau Beta Pi.
Prizes were awarded to the top three presentations, and two prizes were handed out for promising new researchers. Abbey Empfield won third place overall, and Peter Sandvik won one of the promising new researcher awards.
Forum participants were judged by faculty members, graduate students, and industry partners and given feedback about their poster and brief presentation, which could help prepare them if they were going on to compete in the upcoming Denman Undergraduate Research Forum.
Congratulations, Peter and Abbey!
