Jessica Winter on the move: Prestigious AIMBE College of Fellows acceptance followed by two new honors

Posted:

With her acceptance to the AIMBE (American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering) College of Fellows, Jessica Winter is recognized by her peers as a leader in her field and one of the most distinguished medical and biological engineers in the country.

The 1,500 Fellows represent the top two percent of the medical and biological engineering community nationwide, and are chosen for distinguishing themselves through their contributions in research, industrial practice, and/or education. Fellows are considered the life-blood of AIMBE, and they work towards realizing AIMBE's vision to provide medical and biological engineering innovation for the benefit of humanity.

In addition to being accepted to the AIMBE's College of Fellows this month, Winter was featured on the cover of the Winter Issue of Cancer Today. Read her fascinating journey as a scientist and cancer survivor.

Winter, whose research focuses on nano biotechnology, cancer diagnostics, and cancer cell migration, is known for the development of magnetic quantum dots for cell and molecular separations.

Congratulations, Jessica!

Named This Year's Rising Engineering Star by Design News

Winter's achievements have been recognized by the engineering design magazine Design News. Her selection as the 2016 Rising Engineering Star award recipient cited her work to develop fluorescing nanoparticles for medical diagnosis, imaging, and research, as 'nanoscale research with impact soon to be felt on a global scale.' Her invention of a type of nanoparticle that emits different colors to tag molecules in biomedical tests allows researchers to better identify and understand disease progression and improve patient outcomes.

Winter, whose own successful battle with breast cancer radically changed her approach and level of engagement with the ongoing breast cancer research she had begun prior, gave a highly engaging Ted Talk in November, 2014.  See it here.

Meet Jessica Winter during Design News' Golden Mousetrap Awards held during Pacific Design & Manufacturing, Feb. 9-11, 2016 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
